Our goal is to increase social impact through three core strategies.

The promotion of innovation and social entrepreneurship among non-profits and grass-roots programs

Funding from traditional sources has decreased and become less consistent. For-profit businesses now compete with nonprofits to serve community needs. Further, in this less stable economy, funders and donors are now demanding more accountability. There is growing appreciation for activities derived from adopting a for-profit business approach and their ability to generate increased revenue, and effectiveness.

By utilizing a strategic approach that executes proven marketing techniques and involves partnerships with for-profit organizations and agencies within Houston’s private sector. SBL offers grass roots initiatives and nonprofit organizations the tools and techniques necessary to build their capacity and achieve long-term sustainability.

The development of socially responsible and effective philanthropic initiatives

Charitable organizations, corporate foundations and wealthy individuals have a pattern of philanthropic giving that is usually based on long tradition. Traditionally, rote processes geared toward causes such as museums and universities, that are for the most part wealthy organizations, result in such philanthropic acts. However, there are a growing number of organizations and wealthy individuals that view their charitable giving in a different way. They view it as an opportunity to effect social change and positively impact their community in a way that brings them intrinsic fulfillment. SBL will offer opportunities to those donors who wish to align their philanthropic giving with causes and issues about which they are most passionate.

Utilizing a servant leadership approach to promote the development of dynamic community leaders and community service programs

The ever evolving racial, cultural, political and financial landscape of our communities demands that we broaden discourse to include a wide range of varying perspectives about which to improve health and social programs. The phenomenon of diversified leadership will play a critical role in how we begin to address new and more complex issues surrounding effective community development. SBL will provide a unique opportunity for corporate professionals, community organizers, non-profit administrators, and others to take part in trainings that will be focused on the core principles of servant leadership. A hands-on approach and problem-solving curriculum will be used to demonstrate the power of engaging oneself civically to build social capital and valuable professional networks.
